Protect Your Identity

identity theft

Whether we like it or not, most of our lives exist digitally. Our money, our credit cards, our credit scores, our identities, etc. Unfortunately Cyber Crime is on the rise. Stolen identities, emptied bank accounts, and loans taken out in your name are just a few of the financial issues that can arise, not to mention the stress, emotional burden, and feeling of helplessness.

TAKE ACTION

Cyber Insurance exists to protect you if you want it, but there are some proactive measures you can take to protect yourself from identity theft and financial fraud.

  • Complex and frequent password changes help.
  • Freezing your credit is one great way to lock down someone else's ability to open a new mortgage or loan in your name. Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion all allow you free accounts to freeze your credit. You can unfreeze at any time if you need to open a new credit card or loan.
  • The US Government has a site called myE-Verify where you can also lock down your Social Security Number so that no one can access it.
Be sure you keep any and all printed financial information locked down, shredded, and not loose in the trash or left in the mailbox for long periods of time.
